Understanding Stroke: Early Signs and Treatment Options

Stroke can be life threatening, but rapid treatment within the first few hours can save brain tissue and improve recovery. Here are the warning signs to watch for.

A stroke happens when the blood supply to a part of the brain is blocked or when a blood vessel bursts. Because brain cells lose oxygen within minutes, every minute counts. Recognizing the warning signs and reaching a hospital quickly gives patients the best chance to recover full movement, speech and memory.

Warning Signs of a Stroke

Sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the face, arm or leg is the most common sign. Other red flags include sudden confusion, difficulty speaking or understanding speech, blurred or lost vision in one or both eyes, sudden severe headache, dizziness and loss of balance or coordination.

Why Minutes Matter

Every minute without treatment can cost patients millions of brain cells. Thrombolytic medicines and clot retrieval procedures work best when given early, which is why recognizing the signs and calling for help immediately is so important.

  • Note the exact time symptoms started and share it with the treating doctor
  • Keep the person sitting upright and avoid giving food or medicine
  • Call emergency services instead of driving yourself

At Pramukh Brain & Spine Clinic we assess stroke patients with advanced imaging and guide them through rehabilitation and long term follow up care.
